1. Little things count - beautiful
fingernails and toenails can be very photogenic and add to the overall
quality of your images. So, invest in yourself. Get your manicures and
pedicures done professionally. And, don't come to a shoot with your nails
painted in some hideous purple color ... clear and French-style are always
good.
2. Easy does it - It is really frustrating to schedule a
model for a glamour shoot, only to have her show up with bruising, scars
and scratches. Tough sometimes to cover or airbrush. So please, take it
easy. Don't participate in an Aussie Rules Football Game the night before
a big shoot.
...or anything else that will harm your body.
3.
Piercing & Tattoos
- You
might also want to think twice about those body piercings and tattoos that
mark your body, but make your "package" a little more difficult to sell to
clients. Yes, you may want to make your own statement about individualism
... but please remember that modeling is a business and if the product
(you) is defaced or has graffiti inscribed on it, you may not have the
same value in the marketplace as an unadorned model.
4. Hair
- As
long as I can wear my hair - Make certain your hair is shampooed and
conditioned before a shoot so it has more body and "height". And please,
glamour models ... longer hair is better. Unless a hair stylist is coming
along on your shoot, you'll want to bring along your own curling irons,
hair spray, combs, berets, brushes, etc. that you'll want for your own
hair.
5. Practice! Practice! Practice!
- OK.
Here's something simple you can do that many models forget to do.
Practice. That's right. Spend some time in front of your mirror and
practice your body poses - standing, sitting, leaning, kneeling - and your
facial expressions. Take time and work on projecting various emotions. It
would be good if you have more than just the "smile/no smile" look that
most models show up with.
6. Know how to "flirt",
look "coy", be "shy", appear "seductive", convey "sexy", act "surprised",
and more. Don't know where to start? Then grab some magazines that feature
models doing poses you like ... and practice what you see.

7. Take it off - For most clothing
shots, models should understand that they will be posing in outfits
without underwear / lingerie - unless it is intended to be part of the
shot. That's right. There is nothing more disconcerting than seeing a
great glamour shot marred because of elastic lines, a poorly selected bra,
or strap lines showing. Be professional. Remove them.
8. Keep it loose - OK. Here's another problem that sometimes
happens. A glamour model shows up with "pressure marks" on her skin. These
can be caused by socks, boots, panties, garter belts, elastic waist bands,
etc. - anything that constricts the skin. It takes about an hour or so for
such marks to disappear.
So, if you are doing glamour, lingerie, swimwear, or nude - please come to
the shoot wearing only loose fitting clothes. Wear no elastic for several
hours before the shoot.
9. Pack a Robe - I would also suggest - depending on the
climate and weather if you are doing outdoor glamour where you will be
scantily clad -- you should have a loose-fitting robe or long coat that
you can slip on and off between sets. Nothing worse than doing outdoor
glamour - and end up with goose bumps and cold skin ... brrrrr.
10. Shower and shave - Well, a couple
comments here. You may want to shower just before your shoot. No, not
because you are dirty - but because it will improve the quality of your
images. If you can shower just before doing a glamour shoot, your skin
will glow and look much softer on camera.
11. As to shaving ... or waxing - do it a day or two before
your shoot. That will allow any red marks to fade before you get in front
of the camera. If shaving, you should shave in the same direction that the
hair is laying down ... otherwise, you'll be irritating the skin and end
up with razor burn. Trust me, that's something that doesn't look good in a
glamour photo.
